We recently got news from photographer Zach Hooper that Japanese snowboarder Kyota Miyake passed away on Friday, February 20 in Hakuba after falling off a large structure and landing on his back.
Last year, Zach and his brother Aaron met Kyota when they traveled to Hakuba to film for their movie Sol Food with Forrest Bürki and Steve Aoki. They say Kyota and his friends graciously showed them around and he invited Aaron and Forrest to stay in his home in Hakuba. Over the next month the crew bonded through snowboarding and became very close friends.
After hearing of Kyota’s passing Aaron wanted to honor him and made this tribute video. Zach says that Kyota’s dream was to be a part of the snowboarding community.
We are always saddened to hear of the loss of a fellow snowboarder and send condolences to Kyota’s friends and family from all of us at TransWorld SNOWboarding.
