2015 Men’s Rider
Of The Year
[Mark's speech starts at 3:25 in the video above.]
Mark McMorris originally earned his Rookie Of The Year award after wining the 2011 Innsbruck Air & Style and then landing the first backside triple cork 1440 at our Park Sessions shoot in Aspen. It was a trick that set a new standard in snowboarding.
Last season, Mark reminded us that, for him, there's seemingly nothing out of reach by winning the 2015 X Games slopestyle and big air, taking second at 2015 Burton US Open slopestyle, and in the midst of it all, filming for his full movie, In Motion. No kidding, he's in endless motion.
As a rider widely known for his command of slopestyle courses and big air kickers, In Motion was especially significant for Mark as it laid the foundation for life after the podium. It also confirms the theory that he was always going to be more than a contest kid. Even though he had a helping hand from Mikkel Bang, Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Müller, Mikey Rencz, and others, few riders take to the backcountry as quickly as Mark did, landing an impressive array of technical tricks including a nearly flawless frontside triple cork.
For the sheer energy he put into his season, Mark deserves our Rider Of The Year award. His unmatched consistency, trick selection, and genuinely positive vibes back that up.
