Burton Presents : Jussi Oksanen and Mikey Rencz : Full Part

Last year Burton Snowboards did their Burton Presents series by taking you on an adventure in the Streets, Backcountry, Resort, and Women’s snowboarding. This year they took its all-star team, paired them up all winter long, and filmed everything that went down. When it comes to backcountry riding Jussi Oksanen and Mikey Rencz are two of the best. Their riding shines in this 10-plus minute edit filled full of pillow bashing, line riding, and big booter airs. Check out the exclusive interview with Jussi Oksanen and Mikey Rencz below.

Who did you have the best session with this year?

Jussi – With Mikey, we spent the the whole year riding together!

Mikey – I rode every day with Jussi last year. I also had some fun days with [Mark] Sollors, Mikkel [Bang], and Jeremy [Jones]. But most of it was with Jussi so it would have been with him for sure. My favorite sessions last year were the stormy days in the trees. The snow was always good those days.

What was the hardest trick to land in this video part?

Jussi – This year, we didn’t go after the tricks so much -it was more about the journey and mission to find new spots and terrain to ride!

Mikey – The Backside 720 over the crevasse, for sure. It was pretty shady right after the take off, so it was hard to see, and the landing was so steep and long that it made it almost impossible to stay on your feet.

Where did you go on your favorite trip this year?

Jussi – Favorite trip was to St. Moritz, Switzerland. It snowed non-stop while we where there, so snow was epic and it was really fun to ride the resorts for change.

Mikey – My favorite trip was to Northern BC. at the start of the season. Super low key up there. Switzerland was dope, too but I got hurt there so it was a bit of a bummer. So much snow

When did you feel on top of the world this year?

Jussi – When we broke trail with snowmobiles for two days to this spot in Whistler -once we finally made it and you can see the whole place with all the potential terrain and no one around -that feeling is the best.

Mikey – When we were sledding out of Squamish to get to the spot, and all these eagles were flying with us down the sled road. It was insane. Just cruising through the forest with about 20 eagles around us. Insane.

How many flights did you miss?

Jussi – I don’t miss flights.

Mikey – Only one actually.

Why do you love snowboarding?

Jussi – I love snowboarding and the journey -journey of finding new places to ride and exploring the endless backcountry!

Mikey – Because it allows me to be exactly where I want to be, with the exact crew I want to be with. Nothing has to be forced. It’s the best.
