Behind The Cover: September 2014 issue with Gigi Rüf

Kicking off our 28th year of TransWorld SNOWboarding, the new September Issue is landing in subscribers’ mailboxes now (Don’t miss an issue, Subscribe HERE). 2014 Rider Of The Year, Gigi Rüf, is on the cover with this shot from Greenland, riding a huge Iceberg.

Inside the issue we have our 2014 Video Preview, giving you an exclusive breakdown of the biggest movies this fall. We also have a story on Higher, the finale to the Jeremy Jones trilogy, and we got some of the top filmmakers and pros sound off on how snowboard movies are evolving in the Rise Of The Signature Video Project feature.

About the photo:

Photographed by Maxim Balakhovskii in Greenland filming for the Pirate Crew’s new movie Perceptions. The Pirates movie crew has gone from a loose group of Austrian up-and-comers to an international band of marauders. This winter they pillaged spots around the world including the largest natural quarter pipe ever seen in Greenland. When they stumbled across this gem, captain Gigi Rüf knew just what to do—kick out a method.

Watch the full iceberg session in Perceptions, out this fall.

Gigi climbed the slippery surface of this iceberg with no crampons. One slip and he was going straight into the water.

Gigi rocked a life jacket under his gear just incase he took an accidental swim in the freezing water.
