Double Backflips and 720s are a few of the Tricks in this Kid’s Insane Bag

What were you doing at age 10? Probably not shredding as hard as Benni Fridbjornsson, an up and coming ripper from Iceland that has been establishing his skills for several years. At age seven, Benni F was already doing backflips and riding rails. Now at the ripe age of 10, he's sending double backflips, 720s, and even has his sights set on being an Olympian. He’s extremely dedicated, and prides himself on watching and analyzing every trick he wants to learn. Then he sets out and tries them, time and again, until stomping. This was a heck of a season for this young gun and he just dropped his fiery edit. Watch it above and read on for an interview with Benni F.

How old are you and when you did you start snowboarding?

I am still 10, but I started snowboarding at age five.

Where are you from and what is your home resort?

I am from Akureyri Iceland, the same hometown as the Helgason brothers and Gulli Gudmundsson. Our home resort Hlidarfjall is just five minutes from my home.

When did you first start filming?

My dad started filming me at the age six. I went to Lobster camp with Halldor and Eiki Helgason and he was filming there.

What is your favorite trick that you learned and landed this season?

I have to say a backflip. I landed my first backflip when I was seven after 20 or 30 attempts. This year I landed a double backflip but I also like the cab 720s and switch underflip I did.

What riders do you look up to and why?

This is quite long list.

1. Torstein Horgmo.  I met him first in Meribel in 2012 at the DC shred days. He has the style I like.

2. Halldor and Eiki Helgason. The best rail riders in the world.

3. Mons Roisland and Marcus Kleveland. Excellent guys and perfect role models.

4. I need to take a lap with Travis Rice. He must own a helicopter!

Where would you like to take your snowboard career?

First of all I would like to have fun with my friends and hope my best friend Baldur V and I can be pro snowboarders one day.

Where do you see yourself in five years? In 10 years?

In five years I hope I will be one of the best teenagers in the world. Win the World Snowboard Tour and compete and win in the Olympics and Air & Style. In 10 years, I would like to buy a house in Tahoe or Whistler. My goal is to win the Olympics and Air & Style.

Powder day or perfect park day—what do you prefer and why?

I prefer perfect park day, I love nice rails and big kickers.

What do you think of the current quad cork revolution? Would you one day like to try one?

That is the way of snowboarding is going nowadays, yes I will try it one day.

Summer plans?

I always skate a lot, bike and use my MX in the summer. But last summer I went to Whistler for three weeks. And I hope I can go somewhere to shred this summer to, Mount Hood or maybe Folgefonna in Norway.

I have been on flow sponsor from DC Shoes since I was seven but now I have contract to them until next year. And then I have Oakley Europe, Union Bindings, GoPro in Iceland, GoIce, and Mohawks Iceland, the guys who picked me up at the age of six.
