Killington opened for the 2016-2017 winter season earlier this week and has had a strong start to the season as over 10" of snow fell on the mountain last evening. This fresh snow, coupled with the hard work from the snowmaking team, has created a solid base for this Vermont resort.

Currently, Killington is the only resort open on the East Coast, but others are firing up their guns and blowing snow to open as soon as possible.

While 10" may not sound like a ton of snow, it's a good overnight accumulation for the resort, and hopefully more will fall soon!

From Killington:

12:26 pm 10/28/16–The Beast is the only open ski and snowboard resort in Eastern North America – and we have an October surprise for you!

Ten more inches of fresh snow fell overnight and today we once again ski and snowboard on Rime, Reason, and Upper East Fall with Upper Great Northern now open to ski or ride into the North Ridge Area. All open terrain was groomed for first chair, including the 8 features in Reason Park.

Access from K-1 Base Area will be via the K-1 Express Gondola, which will upload from opening until 3:00 p.m. and download until 4:00 p.m. The North Ridge Triple will allow uploading until 3:45 p.m. Skiers and snowboarders will use Upper Great Northern to access open terrain and then use the Peak Walkway to return to the K-1 Express Gondola for the trip down to the base area when finished for the day.

Early season conditions exist, and snowmaking and other on-mountain operations may be in progress throughout the day on open terrain. Skiing and snowboarding are on advanced terrain only; no easier terrain is available at this time.

General hours of operation are 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Mon-Fri; 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Sat and Sun.
