KETCHUM, Idaho, March 9, 2004 – Smith Optics announces its 3rd AnnualGrudge Match Tour. This winter the Smith 4-wheel drive limo will onceagain travel across the country making multiple stops at resorts, givinglocal snowboarders a chance to compete on the newly reconstructed limorail.
The Smith Grudge Match Series takes 16 of the best snowboarders in eachregion and matches them up in a head-to-head single elimination format.The competitors pull names out of a hat to determine their opponent ineach round. $2000 is awarded to the rider who proves his worth on therail.
The tour kicked off this past Valentine’s Day at Park City MountainResort where 16 local snowboarders showed up to compete on the rail forthe prize money. In the end, Park City native Eric Christianson took thewin with a smooth cab 270 on 270 off and walked away with the loot.
The next stop of the tour is set to take place this weekend at Mt.Creek, New Jersey on Saturday, March 13th. The Smith rail, which nowmeasures 25′ in length by 12″ in width, will allow competitors to domore tricks that were not possible on the limo before. Taking place oneweek prior to the US Open in Stratton, VT, this weekend’s Grudge Matchis sure to attract all the top pros.
The Smith limo will head to Colorado on April 13th letting snowboardersfrom Breckenridge have their chance to slide the rail. The winter GrudgeMatch Tour will wrap-up in Mammoth Lakes, California (date TBA). A liveDJ will be on-hand at all the stops to keep the athletes and spectatorsamped and tons of Smith swag will be tossed into the crowd. To top itoff, Smith will provide a free BBQ for all in attendance at each stop.
