Lincoln, New Hampshire--When the lights got turned on, riders from all around the northeast migrate, from wherever they call home, to dominate the obstacles that have been set forth. The gift of fresh snow, newly set boxes and rails, free food and two movie premieres kicked off the 05/06 season of Hampshire’s #1 rated resort, Loon Mountain, under the lights on Saturday November 26. Rippers from all around were literally going head-to-head to win some cash and swag from Loon Mountain, Oakley and EPI Films.
The evening kicked off with 120 eager competitors flooding the base area of Loon’s Octagon Lodge to bring home the green. The contest was an all ages, men and women jam with a 40 minute qualifying session leading up to the finals on a 30′ battleship box, a 20′ A-frame rail, and a 20′ flat box. East Coast ripper Nelson Wormstead ran the mic with the Loon Mountain park crew backing him up. Contestants were in a free-for-all with tech tricks being thrown, bodies slamming, and everyone having the hope of being tapped on the shoulder to make the finals.
About 30 competitors made the cut, including all eight women and one random skier. A finals format did not exist; competitors kept riding until they either fell or threw a lame trick. When all was said and done, everyone hustled inside for the premiere of EPI Films Firefight and Red Bull and Oakley’s The Community Project. With the LMP crew throwing swag from EPI Films into the crowd after the first movie, winners were finally announced:
Chrissy Carelli, Hollis, NH $100 cash
Aly Weare, Shelborn, MA Men:
Lucas Magoon, Rutland VT – $250 cash
Shane Fortier, Wilmot NH
Chris Carr, Plymouth NH
