New Zealand by Helicopter

Following the first report, TransWorld Photo Selector, Nick Hamilton and the Billabong crew had been on a holding pattern due to weather to get their heli time. Finally they got fresh snow, the sky cleared, and it was on thanks to Harris Mountain Heli. After driving an hour and a half out of Wanaka, and into the surrounding mountains, following the valley floor, and crossing rivers in a sketchy mini van with a trailer in tow, they arrived at the heli pickup spot—in a sheep field full of shit. The heli seats four at a time, so the group was split in two. The day ended up being a pretty epic one. Kurt Wastell said that in the nine years he’s been going to New Zealand that’s the best snow he’s ever had.
