The Main Event Series ventured far north for the fifth stop and the final qualifier for the 2009 season. The maniacs at Sugarloaf Mountain got a chance to hit Snowgrind’s next course creation. Many of the riders showed off their talents in Monument Square at the Downtown Showdown the night of Valentines day, before making the journey to a site never seen before. Josh Lempert and the Sugarloaf park crew brought this spot back to life, and the last qualifier came to fruition.
On February 15th the Redbull archway stood high on the drop in ramp leading to a 20′ wide perfect length transition of a 55′ gap from the tip to the knuckle of a10′ high cheese wedge with the longest steepest landing you could ever imagine. Each division impressed the judges with tricks like Taylor Owen’s smooth frontside 540’s for the ladies, and young Jack Herald bangin’ cab 7’s in the Mini Main Event. In the Lightweight division we watched Tyler Liheyreux throw frontside 7’s with 180’s on and off the street rails, Ryan Griffin stomping out huge 7’s, and Nick Julius winning the division with his impressive backside Rodeo 7 that was flawless

Heavyweight division riders Ben Farrow stomping backside 9’s, Brandon Honeycutt sailing Christ air back flips, and backside 9’s smooth as butter with nollie 270 combos on the rail, and the winner Eric Beachemin styling out the biggest cleanest cab 9 with a 270 on and off the street bar.
Carrabassett Valley brought good weather and great times for all riders and spectators to be prepared for the upcoming night event on February 28th at Loon Mtn. Each rider will represent their state to take the belt, and win a wildcard into the U.S. OPEN at Stratton.
