White Signs New 4-Year Burton Deal

Burlington, VT – Here’s a typical day in the life of Shaun White. Win a gold medal in the 2004 Winter X Games Slopestyle contest for the second consecutive year. Qualify in first place for the X Games Halfpipe finals. Sign endless autographs and host ESPN Live. Get mobbed at the base of the pipe by media and fans. And finally, spend some QT with the family and take a few runs with friends. So what did you do this weekend?

If that’s not enough to keep a pro snowboarder busy, Shaun White just signed a new four-year deal with Burton Snowboards. Like revolutionary Burton riders Craig Kelly and Terje Haakonsen who came before him, Shaun is completely re-defining snowboarding with his smooth, skate-driven style and progressive trick combinations. At every event he enters – rail jams, slopestyle and halfpipe contests – Shaun instantly becomes the rider to beat. Meanwhile, he’s just up to his pirate antics, starting style trends and getting top scores without even trying while the rest of the riders fight to come in second.

Considered by many to be the best snowboarder in the world, Shaun has plenty of options, but has chosen Burton as his snowboarding sponsor for nearly a decade. “I am stoked to say that I will be part of the Burton team for another four years,” says Shaun. “Burton has a proven track record of providing me with the best product. We have developed a great relationship over the last 10 years, and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring.”

Born and raised in Southern California, Shaun is in the heart of the boardsports culture and lifestyle. Not only has Shaun been a professional snowboarder for Burton since he was seven years old, he is also a professional skateboarder for Birdhouse, competing in top skateboarding events like the Summer X Games and the Tony Hawk Boom Boom Huck Jam. In addition to the X Games Slopestyle, Shaun has already won an impressive amount of snowboarding contests this season including the Innsbruck Air and Style and Vail Sessions Slopestyle and Rail Jam. When Shaun isn’t traveling around the world winning snowboard contests, he’s filming his new movie, The White Album, which is due to premiere at ASR this fall.

On the product development side of things, Shaun’s involvement and insight has helped Burton continue to develop the best snowboarding gear in the world, including Shaun’s own series of signature products. The Shaun White sig board, the Micro White (coming in 2005), Shaun White HiFi Helmet and the new Shaun White sig boot have resulted from a tight collaboration between Shaun, Burton Hardgoods and Burton Team Management.

“The first time I saw Shaun was when he came to forerun the pipe in the 1996 Open,” said Jake Burton, founder and owner of Burton Snowboards. “Shaun was only 9, but it was already clear that he was on a mission to become the best. Shaun has accomplished that and he’s earned his place alongside Terje and Craig in demonstrating to the world what this sport, and this company, are all about. Shaun has as much fun as anybody on a snowboard, and as long as it stays that way, he’ll continue to push the sport’s limits.”

What’s next for Shaun? At only 17, Shaun has years of dominating the snowboard world ahead of him.
