USSA Holds Congress In New England

Huge trade show highlights Sept. 23 festival for ski and snowboard athletes

Killington, VT (Sept. 3) ¿ The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, the national governing body for Olympic skiing and snowboarding, will bring its annual meeting to New England for the first time in nearly 20 years this month. Killington will be the site of USSA Congress 2000 Sept. 20-24, highlighted by a daylong festival Sat., Sept. 23 featuring a trade show and educational workshops for athletes, parents, coaches and officials.

“The USSA Eastern division is our largest membership region so it’s exciting to bring this annual meeting and festival to the East,” said USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt. “We hope parents, athletes, coaches and officials in our USSA club programs throughout the East take part ¿ especially in the Congress Festival on Saturday.”

The four-day conference will feature sport committee meetings, the annual USSA board of directors meeting, a series of educational workshops and clinics, plus the daylong festival on Saturday, open at no charge to interested athletes, parents, coaches and officials. The Saturday festival program will run from 8 am ¿ 5 pm and will include a morning “Athlete Motor Skills Development Workshop” and an afternoon “Youth Parenting Workshop” especially designed for parents of young athletes in all sports.

A trade show will run all day Saturday, plus a preview on Friday from 1-5 p.m., featuring nearly three-dozen exhibitors including many national team equipment suppliers plus regional clubs and organizations. Saturday afternoon will feature over a dozen “Educational Poster Presentations” on topics ranging from event organization to athlete ranking systems and more. Friday will feature USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt’s keynote address: “Leadership: Accepting the Responsibility to Make a Difference.” On Saturday evening, USSA will honor its top athletes, coaches, clubs and volunteers, plus retiring members of the U.S. Ski Team, at its annual Chairman’s Awards Dinner.
