Smith Hires New Advertising PR Manager

KETCHUM, Idaho, October 3, 2002 — Smith Sport Optics has hired Liz Randall to fill the position of Advertising and Public Relations Manager in the company’s Ketchum, Idaho headquarters. Randall joins Smith from Transworld Media and, in addition to her journalism background, brings marketing and sporting goods retail management experience to the position, with a total of nearly six years in the action sports industry.

Randall will report to Kerry Marumoto, Sr. Vice President of Marketing, and will coordinate all aspects of Smith’s marketing and public relations programs. She will liaise with Smith’s LA-based agency, SNL Communications, on public relations efforts. Randall replaces Leah Butler, who, after nearly 12 years at Smith, is leaving to open her own retail specialty boutique, Funktion, in Boise, Idaho.

“Liz brings a diverse background and extensive range of skills to the position,” said Marumoto. “Her experience in the industry will be a great asset in helping us continue to build upon our success.”

While at Transworld, Randall served most recently as Special Projects Editor, managing content for the industry-leading snow and skate Buyer’s Guides as well as the Resort Guide. She also has experience in retail sporting goods management with Surfride Boardshops, where she oversaw daily operations of two of San Diego’s largest action sports retail shops. Randall was also a buyer at Hobie Sports, Ltd. and served on the sales staff at Mammoth Mountain’s Canyon Lodge Sport Shop.

Based in Sun Valley, Idaho, Smith Sport Optics, Inc. was founded in 1965 with the creation of the first goggle featuring a sealed thermal lens and breathable vent foam.
