Q & A 15.6

We can all admit to taking a little stock around the new year. The celebration has come and gone in a shower of dirty confetti and sad, half-deflated balloons-we’re one year older and maybe that much wiser. Still, the meaning of life is no easy subject. In fact, everyone complained about how hard this question was. It’s funny and also kind of entertaining to put people on the spot, though, and this broad sweeping and nearly unanswerable interrogation was perfect for making a few snowboarders feel all squirmy and speechless.-J.S.
What’s the meaning of life?

“In general, it’s my love for snowboarding and everything it has to offer. I’m lucky to be surrounded by great people, like my friend Nicolas MÅller. We push each other all the time, and it’s good to have a friend to travel with-especially when everyone around speaks English. I can crack jokes with him so I don’t go insane. When I snowboard, I forget about all my problems. “The most important thing in life is staying healthy, my family, girlfriend, and my best friends. These people keep my feet on the ground and make sure I take care of my mental health.”

“The most important situations I’ve gone through are the ones that have made me learn something. Whether they’re happy experiences or sad, they all happen for a reason. It’s getting through them and how you choose to undergo them that improve you as a person. That’s why I think we live our lives-to become better than we started out, and to be a part of other people’s journeys. If we don’t get it right in this life, then we have to try it again. I imagine the best state of life here on Earth is to be at peace and full of confidence, tolerance, and acceptance. “Accomplishments are what keep me going, in all areas of life-physical and spiritual. You can make it through anything if you try to find the good in it and realize the lessons you’re learning.”

“The meaning of my life is just to enjoy it as much as I can. I try not to think about all the small stuff-it will only make you pissed off. There’s no point walking around mad all the time-shit happens, get over it. Family and friends are really important to me, too. It’s good to have a home to come back to when you travel all the time. And my girlfriend Silje makes it even better. Life’s a game; I’m just trying to score-and I don’t mean with the chicks.”

“The meaning of life to me is quite simple. The most important thing is being stoked-that means smiling and enjoying life. This is super easy when there is powder around! Some things that keep me going are yoga sessions with my girlfriend Angie, peaceful-warrior workouts with Chris Taylor, skating with Dustin Anderson, and making a healthy meal with Kipp Hinkly. It’s important to me to always be productive, build my mind and body, and learn new skills from all my fantastic friends!”
