Preseason Clinics To Get Retailer’s Warmed Up

To help retail employees hone their tuning skills, Sun Valley Ski Tools, Grindrite, and Dominator Performance Wax have announced the establishment of a tuning clinic tour set for the fall of '99. The two one-day clinics will feature a guest World Cup technician as well as technicians from each company.

The tentative tour dates are Seattle on October 18—19, the Tahoe area on October 25—26, Denver on November 8—9, Burlington on November 15—16, and a fifth undetermined stop in the Midwest.

Chris Walsh, part-owner and operations manager for Sun Valley Ski Tools says the whole idea of the tour is to heighten awareness about the importance of tuning. The clinics will teach the essentials of World Cup hand-tuning technique, base repair, base structure theory, and wax application.

Walsh says their goal is to have the clinic be more in-depth than what's ever been offered. Space will be limited to keep one-on-one interaction high between the employees and techs.

Tuition for the clinics is 200 dollars. For more information call: 1-800-758-8857.

If The Boot Fits, Wear It Sessions of the Ski Magazine MasterFit University presented by Rohner will offer expert-level boot fitting tips. The clinics will be held in five United States cities beginning October 4—5 at Stratton Mountain, Vermont. On October 7—8, the tour heads to West Chester, Pennsylvania; then October 18—19 in Chicago (Carol Stream), Illinois; October 27—28 in Summit County, Colorado; and November 1—2 in South Lake Tahoe, California.

“I don't care if you're just starting out or if you've been fitting boots for twenty years, you'll definitely come away from MasterFit with knowledge that will help you fit boots and run your shop better this winter,” says Bob Cavis, hardgoods buyer for Gorsuch.

MasterFit offers two-day masters and one-day associate courses to provide a full range of educational opportunities for retail and rental-shop operators. New this year is a series of elective breakout sessions so attendees can sharpen their skills in areas such as snowboard-boot fitting, stance alignment, and footbed construction techniques.

Tuition is 320 dollars for the two-day course and 125 dollars for the one-day clinic. For more information call: 1-800-5-SKI-FIT; or e-mail at:
