DuPont Teams With Outlast

DTI’s Business Drives Growth With Trade Partnership/Alliance Strategy —

WILMINGTON, Del. and BOULDER, Co., October 9, 2002 — DuPont Textiles & Interiors (DTI), the premier supplier of innovative fiber and fabric solutions, announced today an equity alliance partnership with OUTLAST Technologies, the cutting-edge Colorado-based company that designs fibers, fabrics and foams with smart Adaptive Comfort® technology. OUTLAST’s patented phase change materials (PCM) and processes create products that interactively absorb, store and release energy in response to the unique needs of each individual and the demands of their environment. As part of the agreement, DTI will own a percentage of the company and work jointly with OUTLAST to leverage PCM technology to design new products that extend the application possibilities and increase the value to the consumer.

The OUTLAST partnership agreement is part of the DTI business strategy to drive growth by focusing on marketing, innovation and speed. “DTI is committed to bringing consumers around the world highly innovative textile products that will meet their needs and expectations,” said Bill Ghitis, President, Apparel, DuPont Textiles & Interiors. “We’ve recently committed to accelerating our innovation process by promising to deliver 25 innovations, via our strong portfolio of consumer brands, in the next five years. As part of our growth strategy, we are also pursuing strategic alliances and partnerships that will fast-track product engineering and reduce the cycle time of bringing product innovations to market. In turn, these partners will benefit from DTI’s global sales and marketing scope and reach and extensive R&D resources.”

The OUTLAST alliance will extend DTI’s position in the high performance arena with a new family of products. The new products designed by the two companies will be marketed within the current portfolio of DTI brands and will have applications in a myriad of end-uses including apparel, home products and even healthcare.

“We are very excited about our partnership with DuPont Textiles & Interiors,” says George Cattermole, OUTLAST CEO. “Together, with their worldwide leadership position in innovative fiber engineering and marketing, we can more effectively deliver a family of functional ‘Adaptive Comfort’ products to consumers.”

“We envision true potential for the partnership,” said Ghitis. “OUTLAST has pioneered a breakthrough textile technology and made solid marketing inroads. With DTI’s extensive R&D resource and global sales and marketing team, we will take the concept to the next level with innovative products that offer the apparel industry design flexibility and cost efficiency.”

“In addition to the apparel benefits, our partnership with OUTLAST will also yield new innovations in home and industrial products,” said Dave Trerotola, president, Home & Industrial Textiles, DTI. “Over the past few years, we have seen home trends follow those in apparel. The advanced phase change ‘Adaptive Comfort’ technology that OUTLAST has pioneered presents opportunities to create innovative products that satisfy consumer demand for comfort, performance and style. We look forward to exploring dynamic possibilities for environmental comfort in home textiles.”

“This partnership validates our years of commitment to become the world leader in phase change technology, and takes us to the next level of commercialization for new innovative applications.” adds OUTLAST’s George Cattermole. “We fully appreciate the magnitude that this opportunity presents for our collective customer and partner base.”
