CALGARY, Alberta — Tom O’Brien (Salt Lake City, Utah) matched his best World Cup snowboard performance of the year Saturday by placing third in the men’s parallel-slalom event at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. O’Brien, who placed third in the parallel-slalom in San Candido, Italy on January 21, overtook Italy’s Peter Pichler to finish third. Germany’s Dieter Moherndl and Bernd Kroschewski battled for first with Moherndl coming out on top.

In the women’s event, Stacia Hookom (Edwards, Colo.) led the Americans with a seventh place finish. France’s Karine Ruby extended her overall points lead by taking first place in an exciting final 2-run match over Dagmar Mair Unter Der Eggen of Italy.

Other Americans placing in the top 15: Jeff Greenwood (Granby, Conn.) finished 6th and Steve Persons (Whitefish, Mont.) 12th for the men with Ashley Rice taking 15th for the women.

Competition will end later this afternoon in Calgary with the halfpipe event. The Grundig FIS World Cup’s next stop is the Sun Peaks Resort in Kamloops, British Columbia on March 1 through March 3.
