As the supreme purveyor of pre-season stoke, Aspen Snowmass' The Meeting has become engrained in the snow industry as the eminent kickoff to the winter season. The twelfth annual gathering drew some of the most influential and talented minds in snowboarding and beyond for three days focused on networking, panel sessions, premieres, leaf peeping and partying in Aspen's unique, indulgent scene.
Notable attendees this year included Travis Rice, Jeremy Jones, Kimmy Fasani and Red Gerard on the athlete side of things, while distinguished panelists including; Justin Hostynek of Absinthe Films, Adam Cozens, Vice President & GM, Dew Tour, The Enthusiast Network, Denise Nafarette, Vice President of Marketing, Foxtale, Wil Tidman, Vice President of Creative, Strategy, and Original Productions, GoPro Entertainment, Ben Bryan, Director of Feature Films, Red Bull Media House, hosted thought-provoking talks.
Travis Rice kicked things off with a panel session on Thursday evening at the famed Wheeler Opera House in downtown Aspen, where he and ESPN's Alyssa Roenigk discussed his inspirational career, previous projects, and talked honestly about The Fourth Phase and the trials and tribulations that went into filming a project of that scale.
This conversation was followed by the highly-entertaining NEPSA Awards, in which Aspen's own creative athletes and filmmakers showed their edits to the wild and supportive crowd. The fun then spilled into the streets where many wandered their way to Belly Up and danced with unabashed exuberance to hometown DJ Berkel Beats's energized set.
On Friday morning, the panel sessions kicked off with demos of VR headsets, which were preloaded with action from built out by Bo Bridges and Two Bit Circus. This was then followed by the actual meeting sessions that facilitated dialogue for the continued evolution of action sports content creation and elevation. These discussions were filmed and will be available to watch at a later date.
As the formal conference session ended, Jeremy Jones and POW hosted an engaging happy hour that brought to light issues within our environment and the current debates of climate change along with a conversation that keyed in on how to foster and influence change.
The rest of the weekend focused on movie premieres and networking events including paragliding off Aspen Mountain and a barbecue at the base that brought together eager minds, thirsty for new ideas and collaborations.
Closing out the packed weekend, Insight premiered, marking its second official screening. Red Gerard was in town along with his family, and his Aspen Snowmass segment was definitely super well-received by the Colorado crowd.
The Meeting once again created an inspiring and collaborative environment that fueled the fire to make this season one of the most progressive yet.
Thank you Aspen Snowmass for hosting the incredible and inspiring event. And thanks to all who came out to see Insight at Belly Up, that was a wild one!
