We’re certainly proud of the entire field of riders who competed in slopestyle finals this year, but a quick reminder is in order regarding Mark McMorris’ performance. A little under one year ago he was being evacuated by helicopter after a horrendous crash while filming in the Canadian backcountry. He sustained multiple injuries including a fractured jaw, left arm, fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, pelvis fracture, and a ruptured spleen. It’s no exaggeration to say that his injuries were severely life threatening.

Blessed is an understatement

Flash forward and Mark is competing at the highest level in the world, being cheered on by the snowboarding community, as well as the residents of Canada. After putting in the recovery time, physical therapy, and of course relying on his unparalleled mental toughness, McMorris ended up earning a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
