How To Snowboard: Switch Frontside 720
With Dan Brisse
The Switch Frontside 720 is an advanced trick. Think you are ready to step it up? When spinning switch frontside, always remember that it's really just popping a switch 180 into your regular backside spin. Brisse adds a halfer to Bjorn's back five, and confidently checks Cab sevens off the list.
Approach: Before stepping to the Cab seven, be sure to have Cab threes and fives ready, as well as Bjorn's back five. Above all, be sure that you're confident riding switch—at full speed.
Takeoff: You'll be coming in on a slight heel edge and popping off your heels. Open your shoulders as you're riding to the lip, adding just a little more shoulder and head twist off the top of the jump than with your Cab fives.
Maneuver: Right after you leave the jump, reach down and grab switch Indy. When spinning, you'll know whether you need to tuck and speed up the rotation or open up your body and slow it down by continuing to reach around with your head and look for your landing zone.
Landing: When you get to Cab three, your landing will come into view. At this point, decide whether to speed up or slow down, and set down the landing gear. Keep in mind that it's really a lot like landing a fast-spinning backside 180.
Remember: Stay strong while riding switch up to the jump. If you feel shaky or not confident in your switch riding, step back a minute and focus on the switch basics first.
Trick To The Trick: The trick to this trick is having your heel edge real solid during the takeoff. Stay comfortable up to the lip and get a solid pop off of your heels.
