Laguna Beach, CA – January 16, 2003 – The 11th Annual H2O Winter Classic , presented by the Honda Element , a new vehicle designed for sports enthusiasts with an active lifestyle, and sponsored by longtime supporter, Hurley International , is set to take place February 8-9, 2003 . Athletes scheduled to compete include Dave Downing , X-Games Gold medalist Tara Dakides , and two-time H2O champion Brian Richardson . Up for grabs are a $20,000 prize purse and the respect of peers.

“We are proud to be part of the 2003 H2O Winter Classic, an event that has had a long-standing commitment to action sports culture,” says Doug Hoffman, the National Advertising Manager for American Honda Motor Co.

The H2O Winter Classic gathers professionals, amateurs, and action sports industry leaders to compete in a weekend of surfing and snowboarding in their own divisions to determine who will be crowned overall board sports champion. This year’s event will kick off Thursday, February 6th at the Galaxy Concert Theatre in Santa Ana, CA, with an all ages concert by Scrimmage Heroes, straight off last year’s Pop Disaster Tour with Green Day and blink-182. Orange County’s Dallis will open the show and the evening will also include a sneak preview of 3 Degrees , a surf film from Matt Gye. The surf contest will take place February 8th at the Huntington Beach Pier in Huntington Beach, CA, and the snowboarding competition will take place February 9th at Mountain High in Wrightwood, CA. Both contests are free and open to the public. The event will also be broadcast on FOX Sports Net in March; viewers should check their local listings for the exact airdate and time.

“We’re excited to have Honda join our loyal list of sponsors,” says Vipe Desai, President of Propaganda Headquarters, Inc. and founder of the H2O Winter Classic. “Due to their involvement, this year we are able to take the event to a whole new level, including producing our own half-hour show on FOX Sports Net, increasing the prize money for the pros, and documenting the event on a DVD.”

Along with the Honda Element and Hurley International, confirmed sponsors of the 2003 H2O Winter Classic include Mountain High, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Fender Guitars, and 24-Hour Fitness. Media sponsors include KROQ 106.7, Mean Street Magazine, and Happy Magazine.

The H2O Winter Classic presents a unique opportunity for professionals, amateurs, and action sports industry leaders to compete in a weekend of surfing and snowboarding, each in their own divisions. Vipe Desai, President of Propaganda Headquarters, Inc., began the event in 1992 when he owned the H2O Surf and Snowboard Shop in Sunset Beach, CA. The contest has since become a template for the proliferation of events that marry action sports and live music in a festival-like atmosphere. For more information, visit the event website at .
