Girls Rule Roxy Classic At Big Bear Mtn.

Big Bear Lake, Calif., Monday February 18, 2002- The Second Annual Roxy Snow Classic Boardercross was held at Big Bear Mountain Resort (Bear Mountain) Sunday February 17, 2002. Nearly 70 female competitors battled their way through a specially designed boardercross course that was constructed on Salt Creek trail by Bear Mountain’s terrain and grooming staff.

This girl-only event was a great success despite the cold weather and snowy conditions. “Female participation in the sport of snowboarding has been on the rise for a couple of years now and successful girl only competitions such as the Roxy Classic seem to validate this trend, stated Brad Farmer, spokesman for Bear Mountain.

First through third place trophies were awarded in four age categories including Teenies, Wahines, Junior Women, and Senior Women. Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins took top honors in the Tennies division, Chanelle Sladics in the Wahines, Rebekah Ward in the Junior Women’s and Evelyn Beeman in Senior Women’s. The winning girls also hooked up on some prize packs including new Lib Tech and Gnu snowboards, coats, goggles and styling Roxy threads. “It was great to see so many snowboarder girls rooting for each other and yet seriously competing. The event is good fun and we look forward to having the event back again next season,” stated Farmer.
