Demo Days Go Smoothly At Summit

Story and Photos By Geordy Pierson

Big Bear Mountain Resorts held its annual Demo Days Event this week atSnow Summit on Tuesday and Wednesday December 2-3 . About 35 ski andsnowboard companies showed up with plenty of product for nearly everyretailer in the So Cal and Las Vegas areas to test out.

Among the companies were Elevation, Ride, Burton, Option, Atomic, Forum, Jeenyus, Drake,Northwave, DC, and Vans to name a few. This opportunity gives the retailersa great chance to test out the product to give them a better understandingof what they are selling this season.

I got a chance to catch up with a fewretailers to check up on things for this early season. Among the manyanxious, board testing retailers were Ryan Bonin of Utility Boardshop inLavern, and Scott Blum of Val Surf in Thousand Oaks.
Snow Biz: So what products are moving so far this season?
Ryan Bonin: Mostly its just pricepoint stuff right now, and a lot of Burton andNorthwave.
Scott Blum: For boards I’d say Elevation and Capita, boots—DC and ThirtyTwo, and bindings, a lot of Technine and Drake.
Snow Biz: Is anything surprisingly slow already?
Ryan Bonin: Nothing really—everything’s moving.
Scott Blum: I’d say probably Salomon and Rossignol so far, but everything ispretty good.
Snow Biz: What brought you guys up here today?
Ryan Bonin: I just wanted to come try out the new boards and say, “What up,to my homies.
Scott Blum: I just wanted to ride.

So there you have it. Whether you were really interested in demoing newproduct, or you just wanted to ride, Demo Days was the place to be. Freelift tickets, tons of product to demo, and a free meal, what could havepossibly gone wrong? All the companies who participated and the retailerswho showed up all owe Mindy Clark a big, “Thank You, for taking the time toset up this wonderful event and pulling it off flawlessly once again.
