B4BC Announces Promo Campaigns

Leading Designers and Retailers Pitch In During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

LOS ANGELES (September 30, 2003) — Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation (B4BC), the leading nonprofit youth-focused breast cancer awareness group, will team up this fall with designer Paul Frank and action sports industry leaders Nixon Watches and Zumiez to create multiple in-store promotions designed to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

Boarding For Breast Cancer’s close ties to action sports and music have allowed the nonprofit to reach thousands of young women across the United States, increasing awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and the value of a healthy lifestyle. B4BC’s mobile educational facility visits youth-centered sports and music events throughout the year, including the Vans Warped Tour, the largest festival concert tour in North America, and ESPN’s X Games, to name a few. This fall, B4BC will expand its reach by promoting its message at the retail level, as well.

During the month of October, Paul Frank Industries will sell two specially designed tee shirts in all of its U.S. locations with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting B4BC. One tee will feature B4BC co-founder and pro-snowboarder Tina Basich doing a “big air” in the pipe with Paul Frank’s Julius and Friends and the other will show Tina executing a “rail slide” for a video part that characters are filming. Along with the tees, Paul Frank has also created B4BC educational breast self-exam shower cards that will be given out with all purchases while supplies last.

Action sports retailer Zumiez, along with Nixon Watches, has created an instore and online campaign that focuses on B4BC co-founder Tina Basich’s autobiography, entitled “Pretty Good For a Girl.” Nixon has also created two limited edition tee shirts with a percentage of all sales going back to the foundation.

“The number of young women diagnosed with breast cancer continues to rise to alarming levels and it is only through education that we can hopefully stop this trend,” says Justine Chiara, executive director of Boarding For Breast Cancer. “Through the ongoing support of Paul Frank, Nixon and Zumiez, especially during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will be able to expand awareness for our programs.”

“There is a great synergy that exists between Paul Frank and Boarding For Breast Cancer. The result of our dynamic partnership has been that together we are making a very serious health issue both enlightening and entertaining for young women,” says Paul Frank. “Tina Basich has been a longtime friend of ours. We’ve seen her unwavering dedication to this important cause, which has ultimately made us want to be a part of it.”

Nixon’s Chad DiNenna adds, “There are all kinds of opportunities where people can help each other, but when one is as important to a valued Nixon team rider as the fight against breast cancer is to Tina Basich, we know we want to get involved.”
