Nike sent it across the pond to Austria, bringing TSO to the international stage for the first time. After a European season that saw record-breaking dumps followed by record sun in Austria during March, the team was set to crush it. The Nike Chosen Sessions finals had just gone down at Silvretta Montafon, so the plan was to start filming there on three features specially built for the shoot. Day one started things off proper with sessions on a massive hip and a gap over the park chairlift. Of course, since everything was going so smoothly, the forecast for the next five days called for rain. Good thing TSO is all about creativity.
While Austria is known for the savage steeps of the Alps, it's also got its share of street spots. With Nike European team manager Jon Weaver as guide, the team worked some old world rails and jibs in the surrounding towns until the weather cleared. When it did, the resorts of Kaunertal and Hintertux were all within easy striking distance by car, providing plenty of new terrain.
By the end of it, Gjermund had taken some heavy beat-downs, Sage fell sick, and an avy cracked off during construction on a road-gap, seriously spooking the crew. But none of if slowed them down; it just meant they had to stay positive and adjust their approach. That theme of finding a different way of looking at things is carried through to the following photos and video.
It wasn't just about getting it done though. The team still made time to party when they could. And as if in payment for all they went through, on the last day they were rewarded with foot-deep pow turns around the 10,000-foot mark on Hintertux. Not a bad way to wrap things up.
