ESPN Announcement Brings X Games to Oslo in 2016

X Games is heading to Norway for the first time, according to an announcement made today by ESPN and TV2, Norway’s largest television network. The city of Oslo will host the competition from February 24 – 28, 2016, including snowboard big air and Superpipe.

This recent development comes as a bit of a surprise after X Games cut back on stops in 2013 at Tignes, France; Foz do Iguacu, Brazil; Munich Germany, and Barcelona, Spain, bringing the events back down to a total of two per year.

The headlining Superpipe and big air events are sure to draw a crowd, however, in proper new-age snowboarding event fashion, there will also be plenty of other distractions including a skateboard street competition, skiing Superpipe and big air, as well as your usual live music performances and festival villages. The announcement also mentioned that the skateboard street course will be built as a permanent structure and left open to the public following the event.

Invited snowboarding athletes include Norwegian X Games medalist and Olympic medalist Ståle Sandbech and Kjersti Buaas, as well as American Olympic and X Games gold medalist Kelly Clark.
