Wildcat N.H. Gets Four Feet

During the week of Oct 23rd—27th Wildcat Mountain in Pinkham Notch, NH received four feet of record snowfall. The last time the resort opened this early was nearly fifty years ago! The first resort to open on the East Coast in a town named after my least favorite holiday meal, “Pinkham needed a visit. Blue Collar Distribution’s Chris Mulchahey, Meg Ruby, I and a couple of dirty hippies Aaron and Scott got there early last Saturday morning. The dirty hippies we rolled with knew all the secret stashes at the little state resort. It was sunny and forty degrees with not a cloud in the sky. This is unusual because the mountain lies at the base of Mt. Washington where the highest winds and coldest temps in the world have been recorded.

The whole day was pretty much off the hook! Typical of a N.H. state owned resort to have huge granite boulders everywhere on the trails. Only one lift was open on the lower mountain, but a quick twenty minute hike put us at 4000 feet. Under all the closed lifts we found endless pillow boulders ranging from 4ft-12ft. With the leaves still falling off of the birch trees, the snow was a big color collage of bright autumn yellows, oranges, and reds. It was seriously like being able to snowboard through a big pile of leaves in your front yard! Wildcat is the bomb so go check it out soon, not this week though because it’s closed and temps are supposed to be in the seventies all week in New England.
