Torstein Horgmo wins Burton European Open Slopestyle contest with Semi-Final run

1st place: Torstein Horgmo, 2nd place: Mark McMorris, 3rd place: Sebastien Toutant

Laax, February 8th 2013 – After a few days of unfortunate weather, the final competitions for Women and Men at the Burton European Open had to be cancelled yesterday. Low visibility did not allow a Slopestyle contest to be run on the brilliant course at the Crap Son Gion station, at Laax resort Switzerland.
The organizers decided to have the Semi-finals count as a full result for the men’s competition, making Torstein Horgmo this year’s Slopestyle champion. His clean and stylish run consisting of a Boardslide 180 out – Backside 180 on to switch 50-50 to cab 360 out – Switch backside 900 – Frontside 1080 double cork mute – Backside 1080 double cork – Frontside 270 on to switch frontboard to regular – 50-50 to backside air to final Alley-oop 360 nose grab, earned 91.50 points.
Canadians Mark McMorris and Sebastien Toutant joined Torstein on the podium, with respectively 2nd and 3rd position.

The women were slightly disappointed not being able to compete, but they gave their props to Laax resort, playing the perfect host for a few days of blissful powder riding. Burton split the prize purse for Slopestyle amongst all female contestants equally.

With his 2nd place result at the Burton European Open, Mark McMorris moved into the top spot of the World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle ranking with 801.62 points, pushing Roope Tonteri (FIN) to 2nd place.

Sebastien Toutant on Semi-Finals day. He scored an 82.33 to land him in third place for the day and fifth place in the overall rankings.

Following Roope closely on the Slopestyle ranking, is Stale Sandbech (NOR), keen to get another trophy this year, after collecting the Overall Champion title last season. Moving higher up into the Slopestyle top 10 are Gjermund Braaten (NOR), Sebastien Toutant (CAN) and last but not least Peetu Piiroinen (FIN).
Roope Tonteri is still ranked number 1 in the Overall Ranking, as we move towards the Halfpipe contest today.
