The United States of America Snowboard Association will hold the 22nd Annual National Championships at Copper Mountain, CO in Early April 2011

(South Lake Tahoe, CA – March 21, 2011) The 22nd annual National Championships of the USASA will be held at Copper Mountain from April 2nd through April 12th, 2011. The competition is expected to attract nearly 1,800 competitors ranging from 4 through 64 years of age, their friends, and families, for both snowboard and ski competitions.

This will be the first year that USASA will be breaking up competitions for skiers and snowboarders to allow for the growth in both sports that has happened over the years. "We are looking at record-breaking attendance this year due to the separation of snowboarding and skiing. This is truly a huge step forward for our organization" says Jason Toutolmin, Executive Director of USASA. The first week of competitions, April 2nd – 7th, will commence with opening ceremonies on the evening of the 2nd. Snowboard competition will take place in each of the five snowboard disciplines (slopestyle, halfpipe, boardercross, slalom, and giant slalom) each day during the week. Skier Nationals will follow with opening ceremonies on April 9th and competition in halfpipe, slopestyle, and skiercross taking place April 10th – 12th.

The event will showcase the top regional competitors throughout the nation, as well as top talent in the Open Class division. The Open Class will feature many athletes that have competed at X Games, Grand Prix, and Revolution Tour, including the 20 members of the USASA Team. Nick Sibayan, USASA Team member, says, "To me, without USASA Nationals, I wouldn't be at the level that I am today. I compete in the Grand Prix, Rev Tour, and U.S. Open, and returning to USASA Nationals is super fun. I love it!" The Open Class slopestyle and halfpipe competitors will also be competing for 4 Star TTR Points again this year.

As a new and exciting addition this year, the freestyle competitions will be powered by the new Samsung Galaxy Tab. Traditional paper and pencil scoring will be replaced by the devices, which judges will use to enter competitor's scores directly into the scoring system. Results will be displayed on LCD scoreboards for the spectators to see in real time, a long-awaited advancement for USASA competitors and spectators.

Also in attendance within the Vendor Village will be several of USASA's sponsors who are instrumental in the success of USASA including Cholula: The Official Hot Sauce of USASA; Monster Energy: The Official Beverage of USASA; Verizon Wireless: The Official Wireless Provider of the USASA; Samsung: The Official Device Manufacturer of the USASA; R.E.D: The Official Helmet of USASA; Anon: The Official Eyewear of USASA; Neff; GoPro; Never Summer; Camp Woodward; High Cascade; Windell's; Burton; Transworld Snowboarding; Freeskier Magazine and many others.

As a grassroots organization, the USASA is proud to be able to represent the recreational and competitive interests of amateur snowboarding and freeskiing in the United States. USASA accomplishes this by supporting 32 series across the country that put on nearly 500 events throughout the season. Our goal is to promote safe, fair, and fun events while fostering a competitive spirit in the snowboard and freeski athletes. In addition, USASA emphasizes education for coaches and competitors, and promotes an overall healthy snowboard and ski lifestyle.
