The 27th Annual US Open Is Open

The Open is just that—it’s not closed. The Burton Open series is open to every whoha with the skills to enter the online lottery and get themselves to the top of the course. One-hundred lottery slots are open to men for both halfpipe and slopestyle and 50 each for the women. The process of advancing through the Open series is grueling as young Stale Sandbech, today’s first place halfpipe qualifiers finisher can attest.

Earlier this winter, Stale blasted his way through the European Open in exactly this same manner finishing first in both the halfpipe and slopestyle qualifiers and finally finishing with a respectable 7th place in Slopestyle overall.

Coming up through the Open class is not for the weak-legged—it’s a solid 7 days straight of competition— a  real endurancefest starting with yesterday’s pipe practice and ending with the Slopestyle finals on Sunday … if everything goes as planned.

From that field of 100 men in the Open Halfpipe class, here are the 10 that will meet up with the 32 invited riders in the semifinals on Saturday:

Rank Competitor Nation
1 Stale Sandbech NOR
2 Zack Black USA
3 Harrison Gray CAN
4 Jeremy Thompson USA
5 Tyler Emond USA
6 Nate Farrell USA
7 Trevor Jacob USA
8 Derek Livingston CAN
