Hard news hit the snowboarding community today as information about Max Parrot’s cancer diagnosis came to light. The three-time X Games Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist from Canada has been a staple on any competition circuit for years and was noticeably absent from this season’s Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado. Canada’s CBC Sports broke the news earlier this afternoon, detailing his Hodgkin’s lymphoma as the cause for his absence at many major events so far this season.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the human bodies immune system. This type of cancer, which is often diagnosed in people between the age of 15-30, causes abnormal reproduction of the white blood cells in the lymphatic system, and can, in turn, grow to spread to other parts of the body.

Max was diagnosed with the cancer days before Christmas, after noticing abnormalities on his skin in early September. “It was tough to hear the news, and it’s still hard now. But at first, the most difficult for me was to realize that I would have to put an end to my season. When I missed the Dew Tour in mid-December, it was because I had to undergo the biopsy and it was a challenging time because I had never missed a single competition in seven years. And it won’t be easy to stay at home these upcoming months because I’m used to travelling at this time of year. But I have a new type of challenge to take on. This is a new kind of competition I must face, and I intend to do everything I can to win,” Max reported from his home in Canada. Max’s doctors have reported that the prognosis is good and that they are hoping to beat the disease after a six-month regimen of chemotherapy.

Cancer sucks. There is simply no two ways about it. In response to the news breaking today, snowboarders around the world have reached out to support Max on his upcoming battle. Here at TransWorld SNOWboarding, we would like to echo those same sentiments. Max, stay strong and beat this down like you have many other challenges in the past. We look forward to your return to the Winter Dew Tour and beyond, and will be rooting for you over the coming months.
