With the launch of the United Series and the continuation of the annual Sunday Session contest, Salomon Snowboards supports grassroots events that emphasize the involvement and elevation of local riders.

Laurent-Nicolas Paquin and Jacques Beriau, two am riders, both competed in the Sessions event last weekend, after qualifying in The East Coast Invitational Rail Jam, a United Series event. The United Series is a grassroots series bridging the chasm between amateur and professional events. Each event is a Sessions qualifier- offering two wild card entries to the prestigious Honda Sessions, voted as one of the top five snowboard contests in the world, as well as buckets of prize money. According to Salomon Snowboards Team Manager Kale Gray, “The United Series is one of the only North American contests series to have a true road of progression from the am to the pro level.

Both LNP and Jacques Beriau, stepped up to the opportunity to compete against established pros such as Shaun White, Scotty Arnold, and Chad Otterstrom in the Salomon Rail Jam- and proved they had a right to be there. Laurent-Nicolas Paquin finished 8th with $350 in his pocket, while Beriau came home with a crisp hundred dollar bill and a top 15 finish. “Its pretty rad when people come through with opportunities like that for kids out here on the east, said Beriau, of his chance to ride in the Vail Sessions.

The day after the Sessions event, Salomon Snowboards gave back to the local riding community by having team rider Scotty Arnold host the Sunday Session- a jam format contest that allows local riders to spend the morning with team riders and session the course built for the pros. While most pro contest courses are built solely for a contest, the Salomon Sunday Session is the only exception to the norm that permits local riders to reap the benefits of a pro contest, and consequently sells out each year. “The Sunday Session is really fun and a good way to give back. All the kids have style and smiles all day. said host, Scotty Arnold.

Team riders Josh Dirksen, Annie Boulanger, and Scotty Arnold, judged the Sunday Session, giving out new boards and bindings to the best beginner, intermediate, and advanced rider. Rachel Vogel, Boulder, CO won a new Ivy for doing a boardslide down the flatbar in the intermediate division. “It’s all about having fun. Having Annie right there giving my pointers really pushed me. This is awesome.

Salomon Snowboards continues its support of am riders with another United Series event this spring at Sierra-at-Tahoe- which will qualify two up and coming left-coasters for next years prestigious Sessions Event. The Sunday Session will follow the Sessions event in 2006.
