Registration open for Flow World Freeride Championship

Valdez, Alaska – October 7, 2012 –The World Freeride Championship organizers are happy to announce the dates and one of the largest purses in backcountry snowboarding. Held each year in the Chugach Mountain range on peaks that surround the Tailgate Alaska base camp near the town of Valdez. The dates of The Flow World Freeride Championship in Snowboarding are 1-2 April 2013 and will be a two-day competition. With weather window until 7th of April 2013.

Day one will consist of two qualifying runs via snowcat/snowmobile access. Day two will take the top qualifying competitors to an area only accessible by helicopters, where the top athletes will prove their mettle on the world’s most challenging natural terrain in a two-run final.

According to organizer Mark Sullivan, “Essentially, it's the ultimate test of a snowboarder with each run. The two-day event will feature freestyle-oriented freeride terrain to decide the overall best big-mountain snowboarder in the world!"

With its progressive judging format, the World Freeride Championship takes equal parts freestyle, line selection and control, and seeks to bridge the gap between traditional competition and video part riding.

Olympians, X-Games Champions, stars of snowboard videos and magazines face off in the ultimate conditions to prove who is the best rider.

The venues will be selected based on natural terrain features and snow stability, It will operate the same as it had the past three years under the supervision of Sean Wisner and the Alaska Avalanche Information Center.
