Quiksilver Showdown Over the City is just around the corner
One of Canada's largest pro snowboarding events set for March 27-28, 2009

March 13,  2009, Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, B.C. – The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City attracts top snowboarders both locally and from around the world to Vancouver's backyard playground. The event is included on the SWATCH TTR World Snowboard Tour, the largest international snowboard contest body. With the event being a Men's Only format and $20,000 cash on the line, the rider list and skill level will be off the charts.

"The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City continues to grow each year and offers excitement for all ages to witness the progression of the local and Canadian snowboard talent," says Jeff Silcock, Events Manager at Grouse Mountain.  "This is the All Star game of Canadian snowboarding."

The prize money totals $20K for all competitions included in the two-day event.  The weekend will kick off with qualifiers on Friday that will see up to 100 riders competing for the 8 qualifier spots. These 8 riders will then be invited to compete in the Friday Night Jib Session along with more than 30 invited pros. They will all be competing for a $3K winner takes all prize. Saturday will be the main event where invited riders and the qualified riders will be competing for $17K in total in the Jump + Jib Session. With $10K for first place on the line, which will be decided in a 8-person head to head finals, riders will be taking snowboarding to the next level. Last year's winner, Kevin Griffin will have his hands full to redeem the title, and hot on his tail will be last year's runner ups, Matt Belzile (Grouse Mountain Team rider), Charles Reid (currently ranked #8 on the TTR circuit), and teen phenom Seb Toutant  (ranked # 13 on the TTR circuit). This year's course design will consist of one massive step down jump that will lead into a newly designed jib section, allowing both the jibbers and jumpers equal opportunity to show off their skills.

Other weekend festivities include an outdoor BBQ and beer garden next to the course, sponsor booths, demos, and amazing spring riding conditions. The Quiksilver Park at Grouse Mountain is a popular playground for both locals and top pros, and will be the scene for mesmerizing action throughout the event.

"We are excited to stage a contest of this caliber in our own backyard," says Shawna Olsten, National Marketing Manager. "It's a great opportunity for Canadian rider's to showcase their talents in an event now garnishing international prestige, and you sure can't beat that view."

Photo and filming opportunities include: qualifier, jib session, vendor village, rider practice, jib/jump/open sessions, award presentation and after-parties. Rider biographies will be sent out in the next few weeks.
