PUBLIC INVITED TO VOTE IN THE VENTURE/PROTECT OUR WINTERS BOARD ART CONTEST.
Silverton, CO – February 15, 2010 – The top entries from the Venture/Protect Our Winters snowboard art contest have been posted to the Venture Snowboards blog – News From 9,318′. Members of the general public are now invited to cast a vote for their favorite!
Protect Our Winters (POW) is a non-profit environmental organization formed in 2007 by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones. The organization’s mission is to reverse the global warming crisis by uniting and mobilizing the winter sports community to have a direct and positive impact on climate change.
Venture and POW sponsored this snowboard graphic contest to increase awareness of environmental issues. They received more than 50 submissions from across the continent focusing on the contest themes of winter, the environment, and activism. “The response was fantastic,” says Venture’s Lisa Branner. “We were really stoked to see the creativity and energy in all the submissions.”
A panel of judges pared the submissions down to the top five, and the winning design will be incorporated into a run of limited edition POW boards for winter 2010/2011. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these boards will be donated to POW in support of its educational efforts and the winning artist will receive a POW board emblazoned with their artwork.
Working with POW was a natural for Venture’s owners, Klemens and Lisa Branner. Since founding the company in 1999, the husband and wife team have pursued a dual mission: to handcraft superior performance snowboards while minimizing environmental impact. “As snowboarders and outdoors people, we feel compelled to help protect the wild places that inspire us,” says Lisa. “It’s always been a defining part of who we are and how we do business.”
“We’re really excited to be partnering with Venture and appreciate their contribution to Protect Our Winters,” says Chris Steinkamp, POW’s Executive Director. “Venture represents a new breed of snowboard manufacturers who realize that design, production and environmental sustainability can co-exist.”
Polls will be open until midnight March 15, 2010. To cast your vote visit Venture’s blog, News from 9,318′ or check out the company’s website for more information: www.venturesnowboards.com.
