Park City Opens Payday Halfpipe

Park City, Utah – Attention all jibbers – Park City Mountain Resort’s(PCMR) PayDay halfpipe is now open! Following days of snow andtemperatures cold enough to manufacture snow, PCMR’s snowboardoperations crew put the final touches on the competition-specifichalfpipe this weekend, allowing for the ‘pipe’s opening today.”The size, width, length and amount of vertical on each side of the’pipe are in line with snowboard competition regulations,” said JeffBoliba, marketing manager at PCMR.

PCMR’s PayDay halfpipe is approximately 350 feet long, 11 feet high and40 feet (from vert to vert) wide. Events scheduled to be held at thePayDay halfpipe this season include night ‘pipe jams every Friday from 5- 8 p.m. starting Jan. 14, and the King of the Wasatch event series onMarch 11 – PCMR’s signature non-sanctioned halfpipe competition open toall ages.

Riders from around the globe converge on PCMR for the second annual”Countdown to Gold,” a Nokia FIS Snowboard World Cup event, scheduledfor March 3 – 5, 2000. This international competition will be held inthe Eagle Race Arena, where another halfpipe will be built specificallyfor the event and where all snowboarding events of the 2002 OlympicWinter Games are scheduled to be held. “Countdown to Gold” eventsinclude boardercross, halfpipe and giant slalom competitions.
