Friday, December 1, was opening day at local Bear Mountain resort. We were greeted with perfect weather—bluebird skies, temperatures in the mid forties, and zero wind. Chair 9 was running, and The Park run was open top to bottom with a mellow crowd. The base depth as it stands right now ranges from 12-36 inches, and there’s a wide array of features to choose from. The run’s very well covered and littered with jibs of every variety; from down rails, lexan spines, and kinked boxes, to propane tanks, ride on’s, and everything in between. There’s also a sick line of rollers, three hips, two fun snow spines and all the little natural stuff you hunt out early season.
The weather lately in Southern California has been cool and dry which is perfect for snowmaking, so as long as it keeps up the snow guns will be blowing at full force. Next on the list to open up at Bear will be Expressway, another super fun run, and the scene which is a hikeable jib only area located at the base of the resort, directly in front of the sun deck. So you can either look really cool in front of the crowd, or get heckled by mad drunk fools!
