Ludlow, VT – It has walls 22-feet high and promises wild and high-flying action for skiers and riders. Okemo’s massive Super Pipe opened on December 12th — the first, and only Super Pipe to open in the East.
The enormous size of the Super Pipe requires a specialized piece of grooming equipment called a Zaugg Pipe Monster to cut the massive walls. The Zaugg technology is unlike any other pipe shaping equipment available. Considered the “Rolls Royce” of pipe grooming, it’s specifically engineered to produce a world-class Super Pipe and cut walls in excess of 22-feet in height. Okemo is one of just a handful of resorts in the country to use a Zaugg Pipe Monster to cut and shape the Super Pipe.
In addition to the first Super Pipe in the East, the first real Terrain Park is open on the Nor’Easter trail. The Terrain Park will mostly consist of Tabletops, Whalebacks, Step-ups, Hips, Spines, Banks, Whoops and Quarters and will be expertly maintained by Okemo’s Mountain Operations crew. Okemo’s amazing commitment to snowmaking and terrain features is due to the dedication and experience of the Okemo staff Pipe and Park Rangers are on-site daily and are constantly creating new features.
“Our guests are going to be even more impressed by our Parks and Pipes this year, commented Ethan Mueller, Okemo’s Director of Parks & Pipes. “With our commitment to grooming excellence, our Super Pipe and Parks will be the place for world-class athletes to train and skiers and riders to challenge their skills.”
Okemo may be best known as excellent family resort with incredible cruising runs and trails full of fun-sized rollers, but it’s also recognized as an innovator and leader for skiing, snowboarding and on snow adventure.
