Nonstop Snowmaking Provides Excellent Conditions At Big Bear Mountain Resorts

Big Bear Lake, California—As a result of record snowmaking operations—more than two continuous weeks of excellent snowmaking—Big Bear Mountain Resorts (BBMR) has been able to open more terrain, deepen the snow depth, add more terrain features and open Southern California’s only superpipe, which altogether have provided guests with the premier winter resort experience they have come to expect at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

Snow Summit and Bear Mountain are nearly 100 percent open, with 24 of 26 chairlifts in use, providing access to almost 40 trails for all types of skiers and snowboarders. Additionally, the snow depth is 12-36 inches—average for this time of the season. “It’s amazing to look around and see snow everywhere, which has been the result of great snowmaking conditions, explained Marty Ward, PR Director for BBMR. “Thanks to our top-notch snowmaking systems and ideal weather, we’ve been able to make quality snow unlike ever before! stated Ward.

One effect of the record snowmaking is the early opening of Bear Mountain’s superpipe, which oftentimes may not see the edges of a snowboard or ski go up and over its walls until mid-February. Bear Mountain has recently had visitors come up from all over California and beyond, all looking to taking advantage of 580 feet of freestyle fun. With the addition of a new Zaugg Pipe Monster halfpipe cutter this season, “The superpipe is in the best shape it’s ever been, exclaimed Clayton Shoemaker of Bear Mountain’s park staff. The Zaugg is the piece of halfpipe grooming equipment recognized industry-wide as “the standard of excellence in pipe grooming. The new Pipe Monster can create up to a 22-foot halfpipe with an elliptical shape, which allows for more speed and smoother landings.

Big Bear Mountain Resorts has more terrain open, more lifts operating and more terrain features than any other resort in Southern California! Presently, there are five top-to-bottom runs open offering up to 1,300 vertical feet. Additionally, there are more than 180 terrain features in total at the All-Mountain Freestyle Park of Bear Mountain and The Ridge at Snow Summit. Also at BBMR, one lift ticket gives you more skiable acres with a free inter-resort express shuttle service to take visitors to and from both resorts.
