Mammoth Mountain’s Great Opening Day

MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, CA – Mammoth Mountain opened this morning to blue skiesand an 18-24 inch base delighting anxious skiers and snowboarders. Over1,500 people hit the slopes giving Mammoth one of the strongest openings inrecent years.

Mammoth Mountain received more than a foot of fresh snow early in the weekand more is forecasted for the weekend. The natural snow, combined withsnowmaking efforts ensure the best early season conditions in California.Weather permitting, Mammoth plans to open five lifts by the weekendincluding Stump Alley Express and Facelift. More terrain will open as itbecomes available.

“Word on the Main Lodge sundeck was that this was Mammoth’s best openingever!” said Mammoth’s Terrain Park Manager, Oren Tanzer. The UnboundTerrain parks offered six jumps ranging from twenty to thirty feet long aswell as eleven rails catering to all ability levels. The Unbound crew justbegan work on the Superpipe and hope to have it open before Thanksgiving.

To officially kick off the 2003/04 season, Mammoth Mountain will be hostingan Opening Day Celebration on Saturday, November 8. Skiers and boardersattending the celebration will enjoy a champagne toast led by Mammoth’sSenior Vice President, Pam Murphy, a Find the Woolly contest, free hot dogsat 2pm (while supplies last) and live music from the Tungsten City Band onthe Main Lodge sundeck. The official mascot of Mammoth Mountain, Woolly,will also be making an appearance on the slopes, anxious to get in his firstturns of the 2003/04 season.
