South Lake Tahoe, CALIF. (March 19, 2017) – Capping off an exciting international tour, the Vans Hi-Standard Series hosted their grand finale at Sierra-at-Tahoe in California, showcasing local talent alongside the 2017 series MVP's from around the globe. The wind was howling, and sleet fell from the sky, but that didn't hold off any of shredding from going down as proven by local ripper Josh Naasz, who earned the coveted Hi-Standard Series grand finale MVP title. Vans Snow team riders Pat Moore, Hana Beaman, Chris Roach, Mary Rand, and Yawgoons Members Marcus Rand and Brian Skorupski were also in attendance, joining the competitors for a fun day of riding, while judging the best trick contest.

"The Vans Hi-Standard final was an epic combination of young and old, trickery and style," said Pat Moore. "Everyone was stoked just to be there and the prizes were just a bonus! Big ups to Vans and Sierra-at-Tahoe for such a sick course."
The course featured a custom-built park including a big air jump, multiple hips, transfers and a rail garden. Competitors were judged solely on style, and $3000 cash was handed out on the spot for creativity during the big air session. Worst Bail was awarded to Luke Sheets, and the Most Improved Rider went to the young Bruce "Blue Steel" Theile, for always having a smile on his face.

Shaun Murphy dominated the Van Doren Best Trick with his frontside boardslide pretzel switch-up pretzel out on the down-flat-down rail, earning him $300. Tackling the Van Doren Best Trick for the 15-and-under class, Caleb Bonaville snatched the prize of $200 with his gap to backside lipslide on the down-flat-down rail.

In addition to the contest, Vans hosted a House of Vans workshop where spectators and non-competitors were given a pair of Vans to customize alongside local artist Willie Pinella. Fans and competitors spent the afternoon enjoying a free BBQ and a DJ set from our very own John Cardiel.
