Hunter Mountain to Open November 9

HUNTER, NY (November 8, 1999)-Hunter Mountain will open Tuesday, November 9for skiing and riding, having taken advantage of cool temperatures thatdescended on the area Saturday night to lay down a blanket of machine-madesnow on five trails.

Hunter Mountain, known as “The Snowmaking Capitol of the World”, needs only35 to 40 hours of snowmaking weather – below freezing temperatures(preferably low 20’s to teens) with relatively low humidity – because of thefirepower of its facilities and the experience of its staff. Hunter startsits snowmaking operation with about 300 of its near 2,000 snowguns in operation.

Crews are concentrating their efforts on Hellgate, 7th Avenue, Kennedy, 5thAvenue and Battery trails. First turns will be on advanced and intermediateterrain with access to the trails by way of the resorts mid-station F-Lift.If snowmaking operations are successful, skiing and riding will besummit-to-base accessed by Hunter’s Snowlite Express High Speed DetachableQuad.

Lift tickets for opening day will cost $20 for adults/young adults and $15for juniors/seniors.
