Gretchen Bleiler Joins K2 Snowboarding Team

Signs Three-Year Deal with Pro Team

Vashon, Washington (July 15, 2003) — K2 Snowboarding is proud to announce that Gretchen Bleiler, 2003’s most winning female half-pipe rider, just signed a three-year contract with the brand for snowboards, boots, and bindings. Hailing from Snowmass Village, Colorado, 22 year-old Gretchen Bleiler is the United States’ Olympic hopeful for the 2006 Games in Italy.

In two seasons she has finished 1st or 2nd in 18 of her last 21 competitions; and while Gretchen just signed with K2, she has ridden K2’s Mix snowboard since December of last year. “The first time I rode the Mix in competition, I won. Then I went on to win 7 more on that same board,” said Bleiler. Her results from the 2002/2003 season were nothing short of amazing: Gretchen won Gold at the Winter X-Games, the U.S. Open, the World Superpipe Championships, two Vans Triple Crown stops, two Grand Prix events, the Overall Titles for both the Vans Triple Crown and Grand Prix series, and was one of only two females invited to the famed Arctic Challenge in Norway.

“From Gretchen’s results in half-pipe this past year, it’s obvious she IS the top of her game,” said Kevin English, K2’s Team Manager. However, she brings much more to K2 than outstanding results and athletic ability. “Gretchen is just such a fun, lively, and intelligent person,” continued English enthusiastically, “she really embodies the brand and will drive all the performance products K2 Snowboarding makes specifically for women.”

The feeling between K2 and Bleiler is mutual as she added, “there are really fun, creative, and diverse people who ride for K2, which shows that the company is also fun, creative, and diverse. It’s a lovely cycle.”
