About a month ago we brought you news that Chloe Kim, Shaun White, Jamie Anderson, Red Gerard, and Marcus Kleveland had all been nominated for the 2018 ESPYS. In fact, they were even joined by adaptive snowboarders Mike Schultz and Brenna Huckaby.
However, before we could even tune in to last night’s show, we were bombarded by Instagrams from Shaun White claiming victory pre-red carpet ceremony. Turns out some of the snow awards don’t make the cut for prime time television. A following Instagram post from the ESPYS’ account soon congratulated Chloe Kim on her first win of the night as well.
However, while both took to celebrating immediately, the night was far from complete. Shaun White ended up edging out Red Gerard for “Best Male Olympian” bringing his total for the night up to two including the “Best Olympic Moment” in which he won gold on his final run in the halfpipe.
When it came time for the ladies, Chloe Kim cleaned up at the annual ceremony, edging out Jamie Anderson in multiple disciplines and ultimately cashing in on three different awards, “Best Female Athlete,” “Best Female Olympian,” and “Best Female Action Sports Athlete.” Congratulations to all of the nominees and to both winners on a monumental night.
