While everyone anxiously awaits the start of winter, many from Burton, and many friends of Burton, took a “swing at another sport on Monday, 9/12. Over 220 golfers, slicers, and hackers convened at the Fourth Annual Chill Golf Tournament at the Vermont National Country Club in South Burlington. Under sunny skies and unseasonably warm temps, the Chill crew hosted 82 golfers at a 7:30am tee-off, and 144 golfers at a 1:15 tee-off. This first-ever double shotgun event was not only a ton of fun, but it also raised over $50,000 for Chill!

“It was an awesome day for a deserving cause, said golfer (and snowboarder), Jake Burton. “As much fun as we all had, it’s good to know that as a result some kids this winter are going to have a lot more fun learning to ride.

TransWorld Media is Chill’s international print media sponsor for the 2006 season, supporting Chill’s efforts across all of their North American program sites. In addition to participating in the Vermont golf tournament, TW provided caps to all of the golfers.

“We’re thrilled to be able to help such a great organization bring a great sport and lifestyle to kids who don’t have access, said Jeff Griffing of TransWorld. “Chill reminds us all what’s important.

Chill is an international intervention program that was founded by Burton Snowboards in 1995 as a way to give back and share the sport of snowboarding with kids who would never otherwise have the opportunity. Since that inaugural season, Chill has grown to a program that will serve over 2200 disadvantaged inner-city kids in 14 North American cities. In each of these cities, Chill will take over 170 troubled kids snowboarding once a week for six weeks and will provide them with everything they need for this experience, including jackets, pants and gloves.
