A host of the world’s most respected freestyle snowboarders will return to New Zealand this coming winter for the third annual Billabong Slopestyle Jam at Snow Park, Wanaka.
Held from the 17th-19th August the $17 000 event will be run in conjunction with MTV, who will be bringing a range of big acts back to the snow for the craziest weekend of the South Island season.
While details are still to be confirmed, whispers are circulating that one of the biggest names in world hip-hop will take centre stage at Snow Park during the Slopestyle Jam event on Saturday 18th August.
The Slopestyle Jam format affords riders two runs in each round where they perform tricks on a series of kicker’s, rails and stairs. The top scoring runs from each of the heats progress through to a six-man final where the highest scoring single run will determine the eventual winner.
Divisions in the Slopestyle Jam include Open Men and Women’s, Junior Men’s (20/U) and a Grommet Division (15/U).
An impressive list of international riders will line up in the three day competition with Finnish duo Antti Auttti and Risto Matilla headlining a class field that also includes Marius Otterstad (NOR), Scotty Lago (USA), Eric Christensen (USA), Robbie Walker (AUS), Nick Gregory (AUS), Jenny Jones (UK) and Annie Boulanger (CAN).
The full list of riders will be available prior to the event with entries available online at www.nzsba.co.nz or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rider registration will take place on Wednesday 15th August between 7-7:30pm at Cinema Paradiso, 1 Ardmore Street, Wanaka.
Registration will be followed by the NZ premiere of LINES: A Film About Big Mountain Snowboarding. LINES is a documentary by 1999 King Of The Hill Axel Pauporté into the history of big mountain snowboarding and has screened to rave reviews throughout Europe, USA and Australia.
