Big Bear Lake, CA--Bear Mountain officially kicks off the 2006/2007 winter season Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. when eager snowboarders and skiers will be making turns, sessioning an abundance of terrain features and having fun at the nation’s first all-mountain freestyle park. With cold temperatures and low humidity over the last week, snowmaking has been nearly nonstop since its start on Friday, November 24, resulting in a 12- to 36-inch base with excellent coverage and a machine-groomed packed powder surface condition.
“Opening day guests will be pleasantly surprised by the high quality snow, the excellent coverage, and the amount of terrain features that are spread throughout The Park, explained Brent Tregaskis, general manager for Big Bear Mountain Resorts (BBMR). “Waiting a few additional days to open has allowed the resort’s staff to make more snow and create a terrain park with jumps, hips, rails, and boxes that is worthy of Bear Mountain.
Bear Mountain will open with Chair 9 serving The Park run from top to bottom, plus Chair 7 serving Inspiration run with terrain available for all levels of snowboarders and skiers. Snowmaking will continue as conditions permit, and resort officials are optimistic that more runs, including Expressway and The Scene, may be open by this weekend.
Opening day guests can take advantage of special early-season lift ticket prices. These early season rates are subject to change at anytime. Tickets are available for purchase at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Additionally, all shops will be open including the repair shop, retail shop, and for food and beverages, The Beach Bar and Paradise Grill.
