Aspen Requires Helmets In Kids Lessons

Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. – After the successful launch of a helmet program for ski school children age six and under, Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) has decided to expand the program in 2002-2003. Beginning next ski season all ski and snowboard school students age twelve and under will be required to wear helmets.

“We received a great deal of positive feedback from our skiing/snowboarding families, ASC staff, and our medical community.” said Mike Kaplan, vice president of mountain operations. “The six and under program was extremely well received and by next season we will be ready to implement the program up to age twelve.”

“We decided to announce this during our busy spring break, to reach as many families as possible,” said Kaplan. “We also want to give local retailers a chance to purchase the inventory they’ll need for next ski season.”

Helmets are currently available at the Ski & Snowboard School’s preschool registration areas and at ski and snowboard shops throughout the resort. Additional helmets will be on hand for next season.

Aspen Skiing Company continues to endorse and implement skier/rider safety education. Understanding and following the skier responsibility code is of paramount importance for a safe experience on the mountain.
