Mount Snow resort, a leaderin alternative winter sports, announced it will once again host the ESPNWinter X Games, the world’s largest winter alternative sportschampionship. The fifth annual Winter X Games are scheduled forFebruary 1-4, 2001.

The Winter X Games features the talents of more than 350 internationalathletes competing in snowboarding, snowmobile snocross, skiing and snowmountain bike racing. The 2000 Winter X Games at Mount Snow shatteredattendance records, outdrawing all other Winter X Games combined.

Mount Snow’s proximity to major metropolitan areas in the East — justfour hours from New York City and 2.5 hours from Boston — makes it easyfor spectators across the country to come enjoy the Winter X Games. TheMount Snow Valley offers 150 lodging properties, over 50 diningestablishments and a wide range of activities for all ages. The nearbytowns of Brattleboro and Bennington, Vermont offer additional lodgingaccommodations, dining and activity options.

Under the terms of a four-year agreement signed with American SkiingCompany (NYSE: SKI) last year, the Winter X Games will be held for twoyears at Mount Snow (2000 and 2001) and subsequent Games’ (2002 and2003) will be held at American Skiing Company resorts to be named later.

Last year’s Winter X Games awarded medals and prize money forSnowboarding (Slopestyle, Big Air, BoarderX and Superpipe, men andwomen); Skiing (SkierX for men and women, Ski Boarding for men), SnowMountain Biking (BikerX for men and women), Snowmobile Snocross andUltraCross (ski and snowboard combined event).

The Winter X Games will be televised beginning February 1 on ESPN, ESPN2and ABC with more than 18 hours of original programming. The Games aretelecast to an audience of more than 20 million viewers in the US andmillions more in 180 countries and territories worldwide.

The 2001 ESPN Winter X Games at Mount Snow will not interfere withregular daily operation for skiing and riding. The resort will remainopen to all guests. However, like last year, the resort recommendsguests plan to arrive early to avoid traffic. Both will host special areas on their web sites for the mostup-to-date information on the Winter X Games.
