If you were in Whistler on Saturday and happened to witness a massive crew of boarder babes mobbing the hill, doing yoga, or dressed in European après wear than you probably witnessed the Early Bird Social. The female specific event was founded by Leanne Pelosi and is in its second year.

“The motivation behind the Early Bird Social was to seek out our community and to bring it together, pretty simple!” said Leanne Pelosi of the event.

Woman's snowboarding is no longer merely a matter of following the boys around the mountain, it has its own unique qualities, culture and vibe and the Early Bird Social highlights this.

“I'm positive that our community is alive and well with energy and will continue to flourish if we focus on engaging people to get outside to have fun,” continued Pelosi about the event.

The day consisted of boards, babes, yoga and whiskey with the pure goal of connecting ladies and forging friendships. Co-hosted by a heavy crew of woman's snowboardings top ladies including; Annie Boulanger, Marie France Roy, Hana Beaman, Helen Schettini, Kimmy Fasani, Anna Segal and Taylor Godber.

The morning started with a solid yoga session at lululemon's FORLISE where the crew then fueled up with Jules Fuel Superfood and Kampuchea before dividing into groups that purposefully separated them from their friends.

This year mother nature provided 20cm of fresh snow with 10 more centimeters accumulating throughout the day. Every grab, pow slash, boardercross turn and tomahawk were met with an onslaught of high-pitched cheers, high-fives and endless laughter.

"This event is what the essence of snowboarding is all about,” said Chelsea Moen of the event.  “Establishing a sense of community, re-connecting with old friends, making new ones, riding pow and having fun with a bunch of rad ladies. Getting a chance to ride with the best pro women in the industry is just the icing on the cake. If you bring 65 women together for one day of snowboarding… only great things will come of it.”

Gone are the days where riding with your girlfriend is reserved, and forced upon you, by some mandatory holiday (i.e. her birthday); these girls can rip.

Luckily, for them, the boys were invited to a fully-catered after party back at FORLISE. Showing up in your best après attire was required and endless whisky ciders were provided.

The Early Bird Social was an all time event with good vibes, epic boarding and the best crew.

A huge thank you goes out to all the support from: lululemon, Whistler Blackcomb, FORLISE, k2, airblaster, XS Helmets, Jules Fuel, Billabong, Dakine, Hitcase, Townshend's Brew Dr Kombucha, Vans, Sarah Stead, Jackie Van Oosten, Frankie McPhail, Michelle Davies, Jessika Hunter, Colin D.
